Your Community Voice…

We’re pleased to say we have better news to share this week.

Since our last report Shoalhaven Council has responded with a willingness to continue with the Community Consultative Body model providing certain concerns they currently have are addressed across all groups and areas.

A guideline document has been issued by Council which will be circulated to other active groups in each of the townships and villages before a final determination is made by 1 July 2026 – copy attached here.

There is an accompanying survey which no doubt will also form part of their determination and we invite you to register your preferences please. Any support is greatly appreciated. Link to Survey.

On the surface the Huskisson Woollamia Community Voice and other CCB’s see these as a positive step forward and now await Council’s final clarification and documentation.

We can only represent the community if it is indeed behind us and we encourage you to be a part of that anytime future development, the environment or public health and safety matters arise that are important to you.

And we hope you’ll feel welcome to attend any of our bimonthly meetings, the next on Monday 13 April 2026 from 7 to 8pm.

SCC Planning Documents and Activity

  • New Shoalhaven Development Contributions Plan
    • A new Contributions Plan for the Shoalhaven Local Government Area is currently under review, providing an opportunity to say how you believe Council should levy ongoing infrastructure costs against profitable new developments and where that money would be best spent.
    • The HWCV has made a group submission highlighting some current shortfalls in outstanding and necessary works in the area. More Information here.
  • The rate of current and proposed development and the resulting costs to infrastructure should be borne by developers given the majority are for tourism.
  • Why is the much needed roundabout at the junction of Sydney and Owen Streets not included?
  • Why are the Owen Street pedestrian crossings included as projects when they have been funded by the State Government?
  • Redevelopment of the Huskisson Bayside Resort Motel Site
    • Planning Proposal (PP079) 34-38 Hawke St & 28 Bowen St, Huskisson
      • As a result of Council’s meeting on 24 March 2026 we understand the State Government has consented to altering the Shoalhaven Local Environment Plan 2014 to show a new height restriction of 12 metres over the site (an increase of  between 1 to 4.5 metres across its entirety).
      • Council voted 10 to 2 to proceed with those changes. 
      • From here we expect an updated Development Application (possibly based on the original in 2023) will be lodged and subject to normal scrutiny and reviews.
  • Draft Community Infrastructure Strategic Plan 2026-56 (CISP).
    • The CISP is Council’s highest level strategic plan for open space and community facilities and will guide planning and decision-making for pools; sports fields and courts; parks and playgrounds; community buildings; and cultural facilities over the next 30 years.  
    • The HWCV extends our invitation to all interested individuals and parties who would like to join us for the information session held at the Huskisson Community Centre on Wednesday 6 May 2026 from 5 to 6:30pm.

  • Shoalhaven Bushfire Risk Management Plan Public Exhibition
    • Were advised that the Public Exhibition phase of the draft Shoalhaven Bushfire Risk Management Plan will close at 5pm on 7 April 2026.
    • The plan, which has been available for public comment for several weeks, is a strategic risk document that has been developed by the Shoalhaven Bushfire Risk Management Committee. More Information

  • Shoalhaven First Nations Film Festival (SFNFF)The Shoalhaven First Nations Film Festival Incorporated supports First Nations storytelling, particularly for next generation storytellers. They facilitate storytelling through film and providing film making workshops as well as conducting film screenings and an annual film festival showcasing and celebrating the films of First Nations. The Festival are currently conducting a donation campaign to raise funds for the production of a short film *The Rock* based on the story, now a script, told by a young local Indigenous man, Luke Ebsworth. It’s a witty and evocative script based on a true story originally told to him by his Pop from the local First Nations community.It is hoped they can encourage donations to the film production and more information can be found at https://sfnff.wpcomstaging.com/the-rock/
