  • Council has resolved to revert the 45 Degree Rule to the version that was in place prior to 16 August 2023.
  • Under the current trial rule, approval to remove a tree is still not required however landowners must:
    • Notify the Council and neighbours before a tree is removed 
    • Utilise a qualified and experienced arborist to remove the tree.
  • The proposed changes that will be exhibited would see the rule’s previous version reinstated and landowners would not be required to:
    • Notify council and neighbours of tree removal
    • Utilise a qualified and experienced person to undertake the tree removal
    • Maintain evidence of compliance with the 45Degree Rule.
  • The proposed changes will be on public exhibition for review from 30 October until 29 November 2024.  More information and submissions
  • Note – Council has not reported the results of the trial to date.
  • Transport for NSW is seeking feedback on ‘how we can plan for the future of transport in the Illawarra-Shoalhaven region. Early consultation is closing soon. To provide insights to inform the draft plan, head over to the Have Your Say page by Friday 29 November 2024.’

    So far feedback has included:·      
    • Integrating OPAL into public transport services further south·      
    • Addressing congestion on the M1, particularly around urban growth areas like Dapto and Kanahooka·      
    • Building long-term resilience to natural disasters on routes that traverse the escarpment·      
    • Greater integration between trains and feeder services like buses or shared paths
  • University of Sydney are undertaking an investigation into whether existing aged care services and infrastructure will meet Baby Boomer expectations as they become octogenarians. 
    They are keen to hear from more men – if you were born between 1946 and 1964 have your say – you might help improve services.

  • Draft Coastal Management Plans available for comment until 25 November 2024. 
  • Shoalhaven City Council have investigated potential traffic upgrades to improve vehicle safety at the intersection of Jervis Bay Road /Fairfax Road, Falls Creek. Council is proposing the installation of regulatory line marking to limit overtaking at the intersection, reducing the likelihood of traffic accidents. 
    • The proposed change is:-      
      • Linemarking: Proposed 200 metres of regulatory double two-way barrier line (BL2) and 130 metres of one-way barrier line (BL1).
    • Comments due by 8 November 2024.

SCC updates

  • Shoalhaven City Council has received $40 million in Federal funding for our roads. The money is committed to six locations. More information can be found here, and click the ‘Jump to subscribe’ button to receive updates on this work.
  • Danjera Dam has reopened to day visitors. More information.
  • Parts of Jervis Bay Road, which currently averages 9000 vehicle counts per day is currently being repaired. It is being co-funded through the Federal Government’s Local Road and Community Infrastructure Program, and NSW Government Disaster Recovery Funding, and will address damage caused by the September 2022 natural disaster.  More information.
  • The Council Affordable housing strategy has been finalised – the strategy and more information can be found here.

  • Well done Council: The Local Community housing provider, The Housing Trust, recently published its Affordable Housing Scorecard ranking the efforts of Council’s in the Illawarra-Shoalhaven region on a scale from A to F.  Pleasingly, Shoalhaven again received a “B” for its continued efforts and proposed work.Council used funding received from the NSW Government’s Regional Housing Strategic Planning Fund to prepare the new Strategy.
  • Bamarang water treatment plant celebrated 40 years of operation on 26th October 2024.
  • Nominations for the 2025 Shoalhaven Australia Day Awards have been extended until Friday 15 November 2024.
