Do you know what’s planned for Huskisson?
The Shoalhaven Council has voted to approve the construction of 4 storeys, 17 units at 44 Duncan Street, Huskisson. The block is zoned R3 – Medium density.
‘Medium density residential’ ordinarily means transition housing zone between houses and residential flat/apartment blocks. Clearly the proposed development of 44 Duncan Street does not comply with this definition! Up until now development in R3 zones has meant a maximum of 2 storeys, and at most 4 to 5 units on one house block.
There are numerous reasons for our concern; and as a community representative body, along with other people, we voiced our concerns to Council prior to their decision.
This decision sets a worrying precedent and is a planning disaster across a number of issues.
This type of development will change the face of Huskisson and set a precedent for other local areas including Nowra, Bomaderry, Berry and Ulladulla. It should be noted that one third to a half of Huskisson is zoned R3 – Medium density.
We are not against all development but we want development that fits in with the character, and values of Huskisson and the bay.
We need you to urgently contact the Council, and sign our petition.
The more people who contact Council, the better.
There will be a rescission motion so your letters / emails / calls / signatures do have a purpose!
