Here is a quick update regarding matters that have come up since our last email on 12 April 2020.

The NSW Independent Bushfire Inquiry is holding a virtual community meeting for the Shoalhaven and surrounds on 1 May.

Update from last meeting

  • The Voice wrote to Council querying the location of evacuation centres in this area. Council has responded with neither a yes or no for an evacuation centre closer to Husky, they did say:
    • “Huskisson Public School is an “open space” officially identified Neighbourhood Safer Place, which is a place of Last Resort should your Bushfire Survival Plan fail. It is not intended to be a place where there are any facilities available or open.”

  • A Voice representative attended a post Triathlon meeting – with other key stakeholders providing feedback on the event. The 2021 triathlon is expected to be the same route, with improved communication, greater access to Huskisson shops. Liaison with organisers is continuing.

SCC Planning documents for comment

  • Review of the current subdivision provisions in the Shoalhaven Local Environmental Plan 2014 (LEP) and exhibition of a Planning Proposal. The Planning Proposal seeks to amend several subdivision related provisions in the LEP and rezone certain R2 Low Density Residential Land with large lot characteristics to R5 Large Lot Residential zoning. The Planning Proposal is on exhibition from Wednesday 22 April to Friday 22 May 2020 and written comments are invited.

Events/ Other

  • Cut off for the JUNE 2020 edition of the About magazine is Wednesday 6th May 2020.
  • The Investing in Rural Community Futures Program to be launched (you can attend virtually) in Nowra and Ulladulla. $150,000 in start-up grants are available.

  • Shoalhaven City Council will receive $150,000 in funding from the Australian Government to establish a Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Export Hub. See here for more information.
  • Huskisson entrance to receive landscape improvements, see here for more information, map.
  • Applications have opened for the 2020 Community Development Grant Program. The program provides grants of up to $2,000 to enable community groups and organisations to design, implement and complete projects that support and enhance the lives of people the in the Shoalhaven. Applications close 19 May 2020. More information here.

  • 2020 Dan Murphy Grant Program. The program provides grants up to $10,000 to support the training and employment of the East Nowra community.
    Digital methods of delivery are highly encouraged.
    Applications are open until 5pm on Tuesday the 12th May 2020. More information here.
  • Council’s meeting on Tuesday 5 May will cover:

  • Rotary clubs across the Shoalhaven are proud to announce the launch of the Shoalhaven Emergency Services Community Awards (SESCA) 2020. More information here and here.
  • The closing date for litter prevention grants has now been extended until 10am Tuesday 28 July 2020. more information here.
