16 May 2013 - Woolly Way reaches the Industrial Estate! The latest 300m extension to the Woolly Way got underway on 11 April 2013, and continued on 16 May 2013. Garry, ably assisted by Paul, got the concrete delivery organised, and concretors Mark and Mick jumped into action. The new section starts at the Frank Lewis Way corner, and runs westward along the Woollamia Road to the Industrial Estate (Erina Rd corner). The job was helped along by the glorious autumn sunshine, and contribution of the concrete by Shoalhaven City Council (many thanks). Big thanks to the tile sponsors, the tiles have arrived, and have been placed in the pathway. We will hold back a few of the more Woollamia specific tiles until the pathway gets closer to the village. << slideshow opposite - click the large image to Play/Pause |
Update 11 February 2013: Lamington fundraiser a success ; and new funding from Council
Thanks everyone for buying lamingtons at the Australia Day Duck Derby Stall at Moona Moona Ck. We made 50 dozen lamingtons (twice as many as last year), and they again quickly sold out, in fact we had to pack up early! The stall made $1,005 towards the Woolly Way. Special recognition to the individual cake slab sponsors, and to Husky Bakery for their support, and to the lamington preparation team or 'franchise' of Elaine Kelson, Nina Douglas, Jan Sutton, Leonie Malton, Leslie Lockwood and Cheryl Clarke.
Shoalhaven City Council have allocated $15,000 of materials specific funding for 2013, which will be spent on buying concrete. The Woolly Way may now be extended by a further 300m, which will take it from Frank Lewis Drive up to the industrial estate. Garry has plans well advanced to commence this work later in 2013.
Update 12 April 2012: Woolly Way gets a big boost from state grant South Coast Register, link: http://www.southcoastregister.com.au/news/local/news/general/woolly-way-gets-a-big-boost-from-state-grant/2519973.aspx
The Huskisson Woollamia Community Voice’s $60,000 grant will enable it to continue work on the community pathway between Huskisson and Woollamia. Known as the Woolly Way, the shared cycleway-“artway” will run from Woollamia Village to Huskisson but is only partly finished. The Woolly Way Pathway Committee chairman Garry Kelson said the 2.2 km path was slowly being constructed 150 metres at a time. He said the committee spent the past 18 months applying for the funding. “This is a very significant grant for us and we are very grateful,” he said. He said the committee would still need to fund raise and sell pavers to complete the pathway but the grant would significantly further its progress.
The funding was a part of the state government’s Community Building Partnerships program. The pathway was chosen as one of 20 projects on the South Coast. “There was strong competition for the available funds and a high level of interest from the community with almost 3000 applications received across the state in total,” said South Coast MP Shelley Hancock.
For people interested in keeping up with the path’s progress, a sign has been installed just down from the Huskisson Police station to show how much of the path has been completed.

Update 6 September 2011: Progress is being made!
With the kind support and sponsorship of Helen and Scott Ball of Jervis Bay Caravan Park, the first 50m of pathway was built at Woollamia in July 2011.
Now the first 100m of pathway has been built at the Huskisson end, starting at the Woollamia Road intersection.
Concretors Mark and Mick have been hard at work, and pavers have been included in the pavement. Additionally there are road base loads along the route in preparation for future expansion.
The next stage is to return to Woollamia and further extend the path from there.
Sign at Woollamia Rd intersection:
we have recycled the former Linear Accelerator progress sign, and erected this on the service station corner, and will update it as the pathway proceeds.
Coming soon : OUR Community Cyclepath/Art-way!
Stage 1 = Woollamia Village - south to Huskisson
Stage 2 = Woollamia Village - north to Willoford Rd
